Motherwort Herb
Motherwort, a flowering member of the mint family is native to Central Asia but can now be found growing all over the world. The Motherwort plant, also called Lion’s Tail or Lion’s Ear has square shaped stem, 3 pointed leaves and produces small pink to lilac colored flowers and can be found growing along the road side and in vacant fields.
Motherwort has long been used as a medicinal herb and has been used traditionally in Central Asia, Europe and North America for its usefulness on a variety of ailments. Motherwort was even thought to prevent pregnancy and promote menstruation when used on a regular basis. It is thought that the name Motherwort came from the early Greeks who would give this herb to pregnant woman suffering from anxiety; however, the use of Motherwort is discouraged during pregnancy today.

Knitting again!

So now that I have the basics of knitting and purling under my belt.. I decided I'd make a hat

all by myself... One row of knit, one row of purl into a rectangle. I reversed the rows at the top creating a row in which I could put a crochet chain. I crocheted the rectangle together, gathered the top and added a chain with two pom-poms.. and Whalah!   So easy.. no pattern and effective.. now can I make one for myself???

The Snow Continues

As the third snow storm canceled school once again, I decided to take stock in a few things.. like my herbal cabinets and my essential oil shelf.  I opened the doors, and restocked! This month www.aromatherapeutix.com where I buy most of my essential oils is having their 1/2 off sale.. YES half off all oils, it is the BEST time to buy them so.. I took the time off from work (canceled school) to see which I am low on, using their catalog as a check list!
when I finished there.. I went to the next room where I keep all my herb books, dried herbs and accessories
Here is my cabinet and dehydrator.. I bought these cabinets from Crate and Barrel years ago now, and lined the glass with wrapping paper to provide darkness for the plant matter.
This cabinet houses the plants A-P
This is the second of the two shelves... and houses plants from S-Z and my accessories..
There are tinctures, cordials and my sprout tools in here as well!
This is the neatest of the Herbal Shelves..
And that's what happens when this girl gets bored on Snowy Days..
oh then there is my knitting.. and my books

and ... these are the books I am currently reading.. I generally read a chapter in one or two of them every morning.. sooner Or later I will finish one and move onto another.. just can't be happy reading one!
I am making strips of this pattern to put together to create a baby blankie!

Knitting for Snow!

Having a Snow Day is always nice.. and for the first time in a long time I actually did nothing!
I took my time, I read and did some knitting it was nice to have nothing to do and being able to 'chill'
I decided to step up my knitting skills with a new pattern, and here it is! My intention is to make it like a small scarf that will wrap my neck like a 'turtleneck' and I will add a little overlay in size with a button and loop!

And while I was knitting away.. Our Pussy Willow tree which is enormous decided the weight of the heavy wet snow was to much of a burden.. and split! The play-ground swing apparatus is actually holding it up!  So another job as soon as the temperatures rise a bit! Poor Pussy Willow!
